Filmmaker Stephen Dunn has come up with one of the best short film projects we've seen in a long time. He translated three anonymous online hookup stories into an animated "pop-up book" for his Pop-Up Porno series.
The three videos were screened at Sundance earlier this year, and were described as "meaningful and humiliating human experiences derived through true online-dating horror stories." And "m4m" was screened a second time this week at the Toronto International Film Festival before Dunn's feature length movie Closet Monster.
“I’ve been kind of perplexed lately by Grindr and this whole online dating world,” explained Dunn. “That’s where I get a lot of motivation for my work, as a way to overcome my own fears or insecurities.”
“I was originally going to include one of my own stories, but I just found three that were so much better,” he added.
He said he was looking for other stories that he can give the pop-up book treatment to. Anyone who has an interesting tale to tell can submit their story at popupporno.org.
You can check out two more Pop-Up Porn videos (one "male seeking female" and one "female seeking male") here.
