A site with the right to be Cocky

Despite the challenges of making a buck in online porn, not the least of which is the ongoing battle with piracy, new gay porn producers pop up on the scene regularly, biting at the heals of established players in an already overcrowded game. Often as not, these new sites are lacking in one or more of the many necessities to make it past the first crucial year online.

So when something does stand out, it is all the more impressive. Cocky Boys is just such a site.

The site was launched in 2007 to much fanfare, celebrating your slightly rougher exhibitionist rather than your perfectly polished porn star or innocent boy next door. Cocky Boys was successful in finding studs like Jesse Santana, Sebastian Young, Wolf Hudson, Phenix Saint and Bobby Clark.

"I think what made it unique is that they weren't your usual college dudes, but you could say the dudes with an 'edge' and an 'attitude,' explained Cocky Boys' Creative Director, Benny Morecock. "[The site] embraced tattoos and anything that gave a guy a slightly different look from all the other guys on the Internet."

But the company did have some issues and started to lag; updates to the site became irregular. At that point it was put up for sale.

"My company bought Cocky Boys in 2010, and that's when I took over as Creative Director," Morecock explained. "I wanted to relaunch Cocky Boys with a brand new energy -- with new faces and ramped up production -- and I wanted to completely rebuild the website to bring our fans the most cutting-edge features."

The redesign of the site saw all the videos remastered in high-definition and made available in several DRM-free formats, including mobile.

Part of the strategy was to bring in some big name exclusives, and that they did with, for example, Tommy Defendi and, more recently, former Raging Stallion exclusive Kennedy Carter. But even big names have to stand out.

"They have one thing in common that I was immediately attracted to -- and that was their personalities," Morecock said. "You meet these guys and they're magnetic, funny and witty. They have a unique charisma about them that stays with you. Although people don't realize it, these intangibles subtly translate on the camera to create really amazing performances. You can see it when you watch their scenes."

Morecock sees CockyBoys as more of a "Mom and Pop" shop than one of the bigger players. And the team  in the gay-owned and operated company are very hands-on.

"If it turns us on, then we know we're onto something. But we also ask our models what turns them on too, and we encourage them to explore their sexuality as well. ... You can definitely see it translate into a real sexual intensity when you watch our scenes."

Now Cocky Boys is working on its first full-length film, partnering with Naked Sword for the next release of the famous Golden Gate series. While previous installments of Golden Gate have been set in San Francisco, this one will take place in Cocky Boys' hometown, New York City.

What's next for Cocky Boys?

Says Morecock, "The most exciting development is that we're rolling out live cam shows with our exclusive models, so now our members can chat directly with them, get to know their personalities, and have an intimate experience while our models perform

"And with these shows, I don't want to subscribe to the same old live cam method where the model chats with the fans then eventually jacks off. I want to experiment with edging, glory holes, having two or models in a show, and having our chat members direct the action. It's going to be really hot!"

Given what Cocky Boys has accomplished thus far, we're sure it will be.
