Yes, someone made a musical about Grindr

Grindr, the MusicalIf you ever wondered if it was possible to create an award winning musical based on a gay hook-up app, the answer is a qualified yes.

Benjamin Viertel (director) and Jacob Tischler (lyrics and music) cobbled together a humorous take on meeting up through a smartphone app, resulting in Grindr: The Musical

The show's plot is simple enough:

When Jesse decides to find his true self, he logs onto Grindr - the gay geosocial networking, and notoriously known, hook-up app. Delving into an underworld he never knew existed, he finds himself transported to the 'scene' with new-found freedoms of anonymous sex, promiscuity, and general male horniness. Jesse discovers fresh feelings deep inside himself with the help of his heavenly chorus of Grindr boys, as well as realizing the dangers of an unending dispensary of men.

Will Jesse find what he's looking for or become dependent on the app that uncovered his new self?
Last year the show won six awards at something called the  West Village Musical Theater Festival, including Best Musical, Best Director, Best Lyrics, Best Music, Best Book (Bryce Cutler), and Best Actor (Taylor Shubert).

Grindr: The Musical has not gone on to bigger and better things - like an actual production run - since its festival appearance, but there will be a special one show performance on December 8 at New York's 47th Street Theatre.
