Provocative American artist Paul McCarthy's Paris show has had a violent reaction. McCarthy's first major solo exhibition in the city, "Chocolate Factory," features two oversized outdoor pieces that have caused many passersby to double-take - and a few to destroy.
"Tree" is (or was) an 80-foot-tall inflated evergreen, with a striking resemblance to a butt plug.
The other piece, at the entrance to the exhibit, is a chocolate Santa holding another "tree."
McCarthy is known for works that push boundaries. Last year, his "WS" show ("Snow White" inverted becomes "Water Sports") was notable, according to the New York Times, for “plentiful nudity, of both sexes, along with scenes of urination and men masturbating to orgasm, not to mention highly unorthodox use of processed foods.”
The sculptures have caused a stir in Paris, and on Friday night vandals "pulled the plug" on the tree.
We hope this will never happen to your butt plug. McCarthy has indicated that he will not resurrect "Tree."
