40 Years of LGBT families on TV

Last night, NBC premiered the much talked about comedy series The New Normal. As you probably know by now, the show follows a gay couple trying to start a family with the help of a surrogate mother.

The series has been targeted by groups like One Million Moms, who think shows like this will lead the the end of the US as we know it.

However, as GLAAD pointed out, LGBT families have been on our television screens for nearly half a century, and dozens of other programs have helped pave the way for shows like The New Normal to find mainstream acceptance.

So GLAAD put together this handy little chart detailing some of the gay families that have appeared on the small screen. Check it out after the jump ...
