Long running 'In The Life' coming to an end

In The Life will stop broadcasting in DecemberFor just over 20 years, PBS' In the Life has been sharing stories about the LGBT community. Sadly, the show will stop airing in December.

"Creating high quality, in-depth journalism is expensive," explained co-chairs Henry van Ameringen and Jayne Baron Sherman in a press release. "However, we are committed to using our available resources to reach the broadest possible audience."

The show covered everything from HIV/AIDS and religion, to Will and Grace and RuPaul. It was nominated for two Emmy Awards, and is also the recipient of several LGBT media awards.

"Studies show that visibility is the driving force behind this rapid shift in cultural attitudes toward the LGBT community," continued the press release. "As the media organization that pioneered LGBT visibility on television, we believe [production company In The Life Media] played a significant role in this historic progress."

The company has promised to continue its work documenting the struggles and successes of the gay and lesbian community, with a stronger focus on online productions.

"New digital technologies provide the way forward for ITLM’s work to live on," the release stated. "Our aim is to provide access to this material so that it will continue to be used to advance equality."
