Corey Hart returns with gay anthem

If you grew up in the 80s, you've certainly heard of Corey Hart. He was the cute Canadian singer with a string of pop hits, the most famous of which was 'Sunglasses At Night' in 1983.

Five years later, Hart was still making music, though with less success. And one of his tracks, 'The Truth Will Set You Free,' was a subtle nod of support for his gay friends.

"A lot of people on my first couple of recordings that I worked with closely were gay. I developed very close friendships with these people, and I saw a lot of pain, and a lot of suffering, and a lot of hiding," he said. "The gay aspect of this song was an important message that I wanted to send out there, especially being a straight man — I thought it was important to say this."

Hart eventually left the industry, focusing instead on raising his four kids.

And then last year he received a letter from DJ 1Love asking to rework 'The Truth Will Set You Free.' Hart even got involved, re-recording the voice track and helping make the gay subtext more notable.

Hart will be showcasing the revamped single at this year's Gay Pride in Toronto this weekend, and the single has been getting some serious radio play. However, he insisted that he has no plans to record a new album any time soon.
