Archie Comics is standing by its resident 'mo

Life With Archie gay marriage issueRight wing Christian group One Million Moms (who, at last check, boasted less than 1,200 twitter followers) has kindly asked that people stop shopping at Toys'R'Us. The issue: the chain is undermining America's youth by selling the Life with Archie comic that features gay Kevin's same-sex marriage.

"A trip to the toy store turns into a premature discussion on sexual orientation and is completely uncalled for," said a statement on the group's website. "Toys 'R' Us should be more responsible in the products they carry.

"The front cover reads 'Just Married' with two men marrying and one is wearing a service uniform." Gasp!

Toys'R'Us has yet to issue a response to the complaint, but the CEO of Archie Comics had something to say.

“We stand by Life with Archie #16," said John Goldwater. "As I’ve said before, Riverdale is a safe, welcoming place that does not judge anyone. It’s an idealized version of America that will hopefully become reality someday. We’re sorry the American Family Association/OneMillionMoms.com feels so negatively about our product, but they have every right to their opinion, just like we have the right to stand by ours.

"Kevin Keller will forever be a part of Riverdale, and he will live a happy, long life free of prejudice, hate and narrow-minded people.“

This same group received so much backlash when they tried to get Ellen DeGeneres dumped from JC Penney's new ad campaign, that it had to disable comments on its Facebook page. We assume One Thousand, Two Hundred Moms finds it much easier going after comic book characters instead of real people who can actually fight back.
