Fran Drescher is back with gay ex-hubby

Former The Nanny star Fran Drescher has decided to grace the small screen once again in TV Land’s Happily Divorced. She will play a woman who lives with her gay ex-husband, played by John Michael Higgins.

The show is actually based - loosely, of course - on her real life relationship with her own gay ex-husband, Peter Marc Jacobson. Jacobson is co-writing and co-producing the show.

"There's a lot of creative license here because we want to create situations and a comedy that will last for at least five years," she explained. "We're always referring to our personal lives, and we write about what we know."

"When we were married, we were a heterosexual married couple," Jacobson added. "It's different now, but our love has always been there. The divorce was very amicable. Everything was split down the middle. We always have done our best when we're together."

He did not come out until after the two divorced. The two had already gone their separate ways. It wasn't until her battle with cancer that they began to rebuild their friendship.
