'You Are Beautiful' most empowering gay song

With lines like “I am beautiful no matter what they say`and `words can’t bring me down,” it is not surprising ‘Beautiful’ by Christina Aguilera was declared more most empowering song of the decade for the LGBT community.

According to UK-based Stonewall, responsible for the poll, the song beat out ‘Better’ by Boyzone and ‘Born This Way’ by Lady Gaga.

Aguilera, who is prepping to appear as a judge on a new TV singing competition called The Voice, said: "I’m delighted to have been voted the most inspirational pop act by Stonewall’s supporters – my gay fan base is so important to me and this continues my special relationship with them."

The video is also gay-positive, and includes a transgender woman putting on her makeup and a gay couple sharing a kiss.

The song has already been recognized within the queer community, getting a special commendation from the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation in 2003.
