Northern exposure: Oh, oh, oooh Canada!

CRTC approves Canadian adult porn channelIn August, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission granted Edmonton-based Real Productions approval to create the country's first made-in-Canada porn channel. While there are already a few adult cable channels, including 2 gay ones, the twist is that half of the programming will be all-Canadian.

Shaun Donnelly, president of Real Productions, said, “There are a number of adult company centres (in Vancouver), and we’ve been contacted by quite a few of them offering their services to produce content and supply existing content that’s been filmed there.”

Donnelly promised that 50 percent of Northern Peaks’ content will be Canadian, well above the normal 15 percent Canadian content expected for most of the country's new channels.

The next step is finding someone to actual carry the channel. “It’s basically a case of hammering out all the details with the cable carriers,” Donnelly said.

We're not too excited about the news. Canada already has Maleflixx TV and Hard TV which are all gay, all the time. This new channel will be straight and, frankly, who really cares about what passport a porn star carries?
