Cyndi Lauper soaps up

"As The World Turns" has been exploring lavender love through its recent storyline about two young gays, Luke Snyder (played by Van Hansis) and Noah Mayer (Jake Silbermann). And now the popular soap will be delving further into the gay experience when it celebrates what could be one of the pivotal moments for any newly minted homo: Gay Pride.

To mark the occasion gay icon Cyndi Lauper has been invited to perform on the show. Reporter Brian Juergens told AfterElton.com that "the pop legend will be making an appearance on the soap in connection with Luke and Noah. ... While I'm sworn to secrecy on the details, I can say that Lauper will be performing a few songs at Yo's, the Oakdale dive bar that for this particular occasion has been gussied up for a little celebration known as "Gay Pride.'"

Lauper has been a strong supporter of gay rights. In 2007, she helped launch the "Straight for Equality" ally project for Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG). She also headlined the 15-city "True Colors" tour across America to promote LGBT rights; the concert series will be repeated this year.

"I've always worked within the community. I'm an extended family member - my sister and many friends are part of the community. We are all important, that's the message," she told boston.com.
