Jesus Christ superstar

It seems that Jesus has been getting a lot of play, lately. Not just from the pulpits of religious pontiffs pointing out the many shortcomings of people's lives, but also from celebrities and advertisers looking to make a statement or hoping to make a buck.

The Folsom Street Fair recreated the image of the last supper, replacing Jesus and his disciples with leathermen and drag queens. Matthias von Fistenberg made Jesus into a hot porn stud with a shaved head in "Passio." Kathy Griffen even told Jesus to "suck it" after winning an Emmy for Best Reality Series.

It could all be just a little fun. It could be an important political statement. It could be nothing more than a cheap and easy marketing ploy.
