Ex porn star considers insanity plea

Defense attorneys for Timothy Boham, a gay porn star charged in the death of a wealthy Colorado businessman, say their client may plead not guilty by reason of insanity.

John Paul Kelso, 43, was found shot to death in his Denver home. He was a leader in the debt recovery field, and had made a considerable fortune as founder of Professional Recovery Systems.

Boham started as an adult film star, and although straight he appeared in several gay titles including "The Seeker," "Ripe," and "Grand Opening," under the name Marcus Allen. He gave up his career over a year ago and worked for Kelso's company.

The motive: Boham allegedly wanted money for his pregnant girlfriend. He had hoped to steal $40,000, and knew that Kelso had a safe in his house.

On the night of the murder, Boham says Kelso wanted to go to the bedroom and cuddle. Boham, instead, went into the bathroom and came out with a gun. He put the gun to Kelso's head and demanded he open the safe. But Kelso fought back. During the struggle that followed, Kelso was shot and killed.

When Boham finally forced open the safe, all he found were some rings. He made off with a Rolex watch and bracelet.

He was later picked up by authorities at the Mexican border.
