No more porn on OnlyFans

OnlyFans

OnlyFans made its name off of the hard work of X-rated performers. Now the site is ready to turn its back on the same people who made it a household name.

Starting in October, OnlyFans will ban explicit sexual content. That's right, there will be no more hardcore action from some of your favorite porn stars.

“OnlyFans is getting out of the pornography business,” Bloomberg reported. “The company will prohibit users from posting any sexually explicit conduct, starting in October. Creators will still be allowed to post nude photos and videos, provided they’re consistent with OnlyFans’ policy.”

The company -- which started in 2016, and has paid out more than $5 billion to creators -- is claiming it has no choice, arguing that banking partners and payment providers are becoming increasingly nervous about being associated with the hardcore antics that make up most of the site's content.

“In order to ensure the long-term sustainability of our platform, and the continue to host an inclusive community of creators and fans, we must evolve our content guidelines,” an OnlyFans rep said.

More and more mainstream stars have been using the site as a way to reach out to fans; Cardi B, Tyga, Trey Songz and Austin Mahone have all set up accounts. OnlyFans sees them as the future of the platform.

Other popular sites have gone down a similar path. Tumblr, for example, was a huge micro-blogging site thanks to the endless amounts of porn it offered up. Once it banned adult content, it became little more than a footnote in the history of the Internet, and it is still struggling to reclaim even a portion of the users it lost.

JustForFans has already issued a statement on Twitter saying it will continue to allow user created porn.

“The adult industry is sadly used to companies cutting their teeth on the adult market and then abandoning them once they reach critical mass,” the company wrote. “We are well-poised to make sure adult content creators are not abandoned.”

It will be interesting to see how well OnlyFans does when it completely abandons its successful business model.
