Professor outed as former gay porn star

Carlo Masi

Ruggero Freddi wasn't looking to reveal his past as a gay porn star, but now that the news is out he isn't all that bothered by it.

Freddi, who works out a lot when not teaching at La Sapienza University of Rome, posted a picture of himself on Facebook flexing topless.

Students seemed impressed with their professor's physique and started sharing the image. Soon, the pic had received almost 100,000 views. Other sites posted the image and eventually someone realized that Professor Freddi was former porn star Carlo Masi!

Republica, one of Italy’s biggest news organizations, was tipped off and confronted the teacher about his past.

"Some students reposted the photo in a few sites and from there my former life as a porn actor emerged," he told the paper. "To be honest, it wasn’t exactly a secret."

He explained that when he was younger, he was frustrated with the job prospects in Italy.

"Then I was offered to do a film in the USA. I thought, 'Why not?' [It's] a job that helps me earn more and is a more entertaining career."

Freddi quit porn in 2013. He got his Master's degree in math back in Italy and is now pursuing a PhD.

Gay Star News asked him about being approached by Republica.

"I knew sooner or later something was going to happen, but I didn’t expect something so big to happen," he admitted. "I thought someone would publish something and my students would talk about it for a while, but I wasn’t expecting the entire country to actually speak about it."

And as for his past: "I’m happy and proud of both my careers. They both reflect part of my personality. I was happy I was a good looking guy and the world recognized this. I am very happy the world recognizes I’m a smart guy."

If we had a math teacher like him, we'd have studied a lot harder for our calculus final.
