Jail bird: Jarec Wentworth sent to prison for 6 years
On Tuesday, former gay porn star Jarec Wentworth was sentenced to six years in prison for extorting Donald Burns. Wentworth was also ordered to pay $500,000 in restitution to the telecom tycoon.
A Los Angeles jury convicted Wentworth - whose real name is Teofil Brank - in July. He had threatened to expose Burns, chairman of MagicJack VocalTec, for hiring male escorts. Wentworth demanded cash, cars and a condo in return for his silence.
Initially Burns paid up, handing over $500,000 and an Audi R8 (worth about $180,000). But when the blackmailing continued, Burns went to the FBI for help.
"I can bring your house down ... Lies can be made or maybe it's the truth," Wentworth threatened at one point. "I'm feeling evil right now. ... Money won't wash away what people will read and see of you. Wow I guess I hold the cards right now."
Of course, things didn't work out in Wentworth's favor. He was caught in a sting and arrested.
