Actor chooses porn over an acting career

A promising actor in Scotland has decided he'd rather make straight adult movies right now than pursue work on the stage and screen.

In fact, 30 year-old Craig Chalmers has already lost an upcoming gig as Prince Charming in a production of Cinderella at the Alhambra Theatre in Dunfermline, Scotland, once producers learned of his porn work.

“I’m not ashamed of it," Chalmers said, who works under the name Ryan Ryder. "I’m being well paid and I’m comfortable with doing it. I can confirm though that I won’t be performing in [pantomime] this year in Dunfermline which is a shame as I was looking forward to it.

“The plan was to wrap my panto career up after this Christmas and concentrate on my new career. However there has been an unintended crossover and I’m well aware that there is a clear conflict of interest. It’s a bit of bad timing and it’s unfortunate but it was completely unintended.

He said the decision to do porn was to allow him to spend more time with his wife. “Working on conventional shows, I was basically living out of a suitcase, going from town to town. I hardly ever saw my wife. In my new career I head to work for 10am and I finish at 3pm. I’m home every night for dinner.”

Chalmers initially made a name for himself after appearing in the 2007 BBC series Any Dream Will Do, a reality show where he competed to get the lead in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. He came in fifth.

“For someone who has already built up a following and who has a made a fairly good career for himself as an entertainer on TV and in theatres, this move is effectively suicide for his mainstream career," said an unnamed industry insider. "It is very difficult if not impossible for someone to move back into the mainstream once they have established themselves in the adult entertainment industry. It’s a real shame as he had talent and it’s hard to see where he will go from here.”

We think that if he's happy with his choice then more power to him. Life is too short to keep doing what others expect you to do, anyway!
