Gay performer second confirmed syphilis case

Adult Production Health & Safety Services (APHSS) has confirmed a second case of syphilis within the Los Angeles porn community.

The first positive result is believed to have come from the straight side of the industry. This second case, however, is a gay performer, who is said to work exclusively on condom-only sets.

“Partner identification is underway and APHSS will ensure that all partners are tested and treated,” said Diane Duke, FSC executive director. “We encourage anyone else who may have tested positive for syphilis to contact us.”

APHSS can only confirm the two cases as the organization requires individuals to come forward with their health status. However, the Los Angeles Public County Health (LACPH) Department Director Dr. Jonathan Fielding has already acknowledged that as many as nine confirmed cases have been reported to county health officials.

LACPH and Talent Testing Services (TTS), where many performers get tested, have not responded to APHSS' request for help in identifying actual cases, leaving the organization in the dark. Without additional information, the APHSS cannot confirm when these other individuals were infected nor if they were working while carrying syphilis.

It would be helpful if these groups could work together for the benefit of performers, but obviously that's asking too much.
