Schwarzenegger finally approves of Milk

Arnold SchwarzeneggerArnold Schwarzenegger - you know, the ex-muscle man movie star who runs California - has finally signed into law a bill that recognizes Harvey Milk Day in the state. Over 40,000 California residents had signed a petition asking for a special day as a way to recognize the celebrated gay activist but no one was sure if the Republican governor would allow it.

The special day will now allow schools to discuss and celebrate the activist's work.

Schwarzenegger also signed into law a second gay-friendly bill, recognising marriages performed in places where gay unions are legal. This will give any gay couple, legally married in another state, to get all the rights of married couples in California.

Schwarzenegger said the second bill will "provide the same legal protections that would otherwise be available to couples that enter into civil unions or domestic partnerships out-of-state. In short, this measure honours the will of the people in enacting Proposition 8 while providing important protections to those unions legally entered into in other states."

See, not all Republicans are evil.
