Things are getting steamy on
Gotham, the Fox TV series that explores the teen years of Bruce Wayne before he becomes Batman. Sadly, some fans are not impressed.
This season, the Penguin falls in love with Edward Nygma (the Riddler). Robin Lord Taylor, who plays the Penguin, isn't about to let the haters get him down.
When critics complained that a gay Penguin wasn't part of the traditional comic book universe, he replied, “that’s a bunch of horseshit."
“You can’t say that to me if you also didn’t have the same amount of consternation about [the] Batman [movie from 1989], where the Joker killed Batman’s parents,” he explained at the Rhode Island Comic Con. “That’s a total departure from the canon characters.”
He also pointed out that Wayne and Selena Kyle (Catwoman) didn't know each other as teens in the comic, but they do on the TV series."
“What you are saying to me is, ’I am homophobic and I am afraid of gay people and queer people,'” he said.
Besides, how can you be a homophobe and love Batman? Haven't he and Robin been lovers forever?
