"Daily Beast" writer who outed Olympians sent home from Rio

Nico HinesLast week, The Daily Beast's Nico Hines posted an article about hooking up with Olympic athletes through Grindr. And, though he did not name names, he described some of the men in detail and included their country of origin. (And, for the record, he did not plan on sleeping with anyone so completely wasted these men's time.)

The site's editors refused to take down the article, but did change any information that might out individual athletes. By end of day, the article was removed and an apology from The Daily Beast was issued, admitting it had made a huge mistake.

The site said:
Today we did not uphold a deep set of The Daily Beast's values. These values—which include standing up to bullies and bigots, and specifically being a proudly, steadfastly supportive voice for LGBT people all over the world—are core to our commitment to journalism and to our commitment to serving our readers.
On Sunday, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) finally responded to the controversy.

“We understand the organization concerned recalled the journalist after complaints and withdrew the story,” said a spokesperson from the IOC. “This kind of reporting is simply unacceptable.”

Through it all, Hines -- who makes sure in the article you know that he is straight and married -- has said nothing. He has not tweeted or posted or released a statement about any of this.

But the online furor refuses to die as people continue to post and rant and complain about what he did. Some people have called for his death (inappropriate), some have demanded he be fired (fair), and some have posted their dick pics and told him to suck them (more please!).

We think he needs to do the right thing and apologize (and not one of those "sorry to those who were offended" things).
