The night Third Eye Blind trolled the GOP

Third Eye Blind

Rock band Third Eye Blind is all kinds of amazing.

The group took trolling to a new level during a charity event on Tuesday night in Cleveland, openly calling for LGBT rights and standing up for science. The result: boos from some people in the audience.

"You can boo all you want, but I'm the motherfucking artist up here," lead singer, Stephan Jenkins, said.

It was widely reported that the group was playing at a Republican event as part of the current GOP convention, hence the negative reaction from some people. However, Third Eye Blind was actually performing at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at an event hosted by the Recording Industry Association of America for Musicians on Call (which brings musicians into hospitals). It just happened to be taking place near the RNC, meaning many Republicans had dropped by the charity event.

The one hit song the group chose to play, "Jumper," is about Jenkin's gay friend who committed suicide. It was preceded by a pro-LGBT message.

"To love this song is to take into your heart the message and to actually, actually have a feeling to arrive and move forward, and not live your life in fear and imposing that fear on other people," Jenkins said before playing the song.

It was a direct dig at the recent anti-gay platform adopted by the GOP which announced full support for gay conversion therapy, and claiming children of same-sex parents are more likely to become drug addicts.
