Gayquation, a match making agency, has launched something it calls the 30or30 Initiative (30or30.com) for men seeking men interested in long term relationships. It's not a hook-up site, and it won't help you find a man; instead, it is calling on gay men to "help remove the stereotype and sexual proclivities that predominate the gay culture by promoting abstinence and safe sex."
Visitors to the site are asked to sign a pledge, promising to either abstain from sexual activity for at least 30 days, or establish a connection with someone for at least 30 days before getting intimate. Otherwise, you ain't nothing but a dirty skank.
The site claims: "A poll of over 1000 gay men revealed that a staggering 42% have engaged in at least one sexual act while not being able to recall their partner's first name, 27% of which claimed numerous instances and have lost count in their lifetime number of sexual partners. WTF!!!"
There's no indication of when and by whom the poll was conducted. And in any case, who the hell cares? Having an anonymous sexual encounter doesn't make you evil and unmarriagable.
Other claims which seem to be based on the premise that sex is filthy and disgusting:
- 90% of gay-specific dating sites/apps allow for erotic or pornographic photos
- 65% of the straight community hold the stereotype that most gay men engage in casual sex
- 20% of gay men are HIV-Positive, but nearly half don't know it AND 62% of HIV-positive gay men have unprotected sex
It gets better! Several testimonials are shared about how dirty men feel after having sex with another dude. Example:
"I met this man while on vacation in Hawaii. We clicked right away and needless to say we slept with each other the first night without protection. I felt a connection with him but 5 days later without notice he disappeared and I learned he slept with a colleague soon after. I felt disgusted and disgusting. I made a cardinal rule I would not venture down that path again. Luckily, [I] am still HIV neg."
Needless to say?
Don't be surprised if you take the pledge and get a friendly e-mail from Gayquation offering to help you find Mister Right. The agency has plans starting at $49.95 per month. Could that be the company's real motive, to SPAM the guilt-laden with matchmaking offers? Say it ain't so!
