Can gay porn save gay Russians?

Mike Kulich, the owner of an adult film distribution company called Monarchy Distribution, thinks porn can help gay Russians find asylum in more LGBT-friendly countries. He plans to create an "all male" porn company called Boys Town Studios, and claims he'll donate 100% of the profits towards a new initiative that will facilitate the move from Russia to places like Canada and the US.

“I have always created porn for profit. This will be the first studio I launch that will give back to the LGBT community,” Kulich explained. “While the advancements of gay rights in the US have changed our society for the better, the setbacks abroad (particularly in Russia) made me see that this type of project was a necessity. I want to help the people suffering all over the world and living in persecuting countries using the best way I know how: making quality porn.”

Boys Town Studios plans to release two films a month and offer everything from twinks to bears to leather men and kink. All profits, from DVD or VOD, will supposedly go to the yet unnamed gay Russian refugee fund. The first video, Deep in the Dark, is currently in pre-production.

Kulich, who is straight and has worked predominantly in the straight porn world, added that “anyone will be able to write Boys Town Studios and tell their stories about how bigotry and homophobia has affected their lives, and we will step in to help those victims as much as we can.”

Is he being sincere, or is this nothing more than an ingenious PR campaign for a new porn studio? I hope he does everything he promises, and I wish him all the luck in the world. But if he's playing all of us, then may his penis become an innie and his pubes the permanent home to a million mutant crabs.
