Matt Farber, the man behind gay-themed cable channel Logo, has now set his sights on the web.
He is joining up with former Logo vice president Brian Tolleson to launch Gwist, a YouTube channel aimed at the queer community. Gwist - short for “gay with a twist” - will launch on January 14, and include both existing and original programming.
Some of the shows include: The Untitled Spousal Equivalent Game, an anti-Newlywed Game that proves no orientation has a monopoly on marital dysfunction, and hosted by comedian Judy Gold; Gwissues with Howard Bragman, a panel discussion about topics of interest to the LGBT community; and The Randy Rainbow Show in which Rainbow looks at the humorous side of news.
The new YouTube channel aims to not only create and curate content for LGBT viewers, but also uncover new voices from the LGBT community at large, both inside and outside the existing YouTube audience.
“An online video network is a natural next step in the evolution of gay media and entertainment,” Farber said. “The social media, on demand and universal distribution aspects of online and mobile video are perfectly suited for niche programming. With broadcast and cable networks becoming more homogenous in order to reach the broadest audience, and online video consumption reaching critical mass, the time feels right for Gwist.”
