A recent survey conducted through FS Magazine on behalf of the health charity GMFA (Gay Men's Health Charity) found that of the 1000 respondents, 7 percent said they explored unprotected sex after watching bareback pornography. Over 50 percent said they thought bareback porn made others try it.
“It was clear from the response that we got to the survey that gay men are interested in porn," said Matthew Hodson of GMFA, pointing out that 98 percent of men said they viewed porn, 75 percent of which watched it several times a week. “It’s impossible to say precisely how much impact watching porn has on people’s behaviour but it seems that many people, gay or straight, learn about sex from porn, and perhaps this is even more true for gay men, as we are less likely to get a gay sex education at school.”
“Porn is sometimes the first taste of sex a young person gets, so naturally what they see on screen, they might emulate in life," added porn actor Dean Monroe. “Every scene should show the model putting the condom on.”
Not everyone, of course, agreed with the findings. Liam Cole, a director for Treasure Island Media, argued that his work simply reflected the reality of how many men experience sex these days (in other words, without a condom).
“My porn is not a fantasy, it’s a record of how some gay men fuck," he said. "Bareback sex doesn’t take much encouragement.”
