Porn giant Manwin and the Free Speech Coalition (FSC) have announced a joint initiative called the "Performer Subsidy Fund" to help subsidize STD testing in the XXX industry. The program is scheduled to start August 1.
The program will rely on the Adult Production Health and Safety Services (APHSS) database, and allow performers to use any of the affiliated clinics, including Cutting Edge Testing, Talent Testing Services and Advanced Medical Testing Center.
Manwin, an international porn conglomerate that made millions with tube sites and has since expanded into producing content (including the Men.com sites), said it would provide $50,000 monthly to the program through the rest of the year. The company added that the subsidy would be open to all adult entertainers, and not just actors who work for Manwin companies.
"This fund was conceptualized to alleviate some of the expenses, and financial burden, performers may be facing due to occupational testing," explained Manwin Managing Partner Fabian Thylmann. "We’re grateful the FSC agreed to support this project, and hope others in the industry will back it as well.”
"They put up the funds and we will implement the program," FSC Executive Director Diane Duke said. "The program is open for other producers to contribute as well — the more money that comes in, the more we will be able to send to performers."
This does beg the question of why all production companies don't pay for testing rather than expecting models to bear the cost.
