If you had a friend who ran around in a skin tight, package enhancing latex suit, and who spent most of his time with a younger hottie in a similar outfit, wouldn't you suspect he might play for our team?
Well, Action Comics writer Grant Morrison, who has written for DC Comics' various Batman titles, admitted that the suspicions about Batman and Robin aren't too far fetched, given that Batmen does seem "very, very gay."
"He’s very plutonian in the sense that he’s wealthy and also in the sense that he’s sexually deviant," Morrison told Playboy magazine. "Gayness is built into Batman. I’m not using gay in the pejorative sense, but Batman is very, very gay. There’s just no denying it. Obviously as a fictional character he’s intended to be heterosexual, but the basis of the whole concept is utterly gay.
"I think that’s why people like it," Morrison added. "All these women fancy him and they all wear fetish clothes and jump around rooftops to get to him. He doesn’t care -- he’s more interested in hanging out with the old guy and the kid."
Homosexuality is already in the family. In 2006, a new version of Batwoman was created, and the company quickly confirmed that she was a lesbian (making her the highest profile gay character to appear in stories produced by DC Comics.)
Of course, Batman won't be coming out of the bat cave anytime soon (if ever). So it will be a while before you see the comic include images like this ...
