Most gays don't like Ann Coulter. She is that nasty blond carnival barker for the Republican Party, known for playing fast and loose with the facts in order to push an ultra-right wing agenda.
So it came as a surprise when GOProud, a group for gay Republicans, invited the hateful cow to be a keynote speaker to its 2010 Homocon.
The invite upset gays who saw GOProud as mixing it up with the enemy. Not that GOProud’s Jimmy LaSalvia cared.
“We are not concerned about what the PC crowd has to say,” he said. “This is about having fun. I don’t agree with everything she has said in her lifetime, just like she doesn’t agree with everything I’ve ever said….but we can still party together, right?”
Now Coulter is facing attacks from her own party for speaking at a gay event.
Taking America Back National Conference organizers have dropped her from their event.
"Ultimately, as a matter of principle, it would not make sense for us to have Ann speak to a conference about 'taking America back' when she clearly does not recognize that the ideals to be espoused there simply do not include the radical and the very 'unconservative' agenda represented by GOProud," event founder Joseph Farah said. "The drift of the conservative movement to a brand of materialistic libertarianism is one of the main reasons we planned this conference from the beginning."
"I'm sure I agree with GOProud more than I do with at least half of my college audiences," Coulter countered. "But in any event, giving a speech is not an endorsement of every position held by the people I'm speaking to."
We'll gladly go to either event and scrape our nails down a chalkboard for an hour, and we'd do it free of charge!
