Bobby Blake: retired but not forgotten

Bobby Blake made a name for himself in the gay porn world as the dominant black man against whom all others would be judged. He was verbal. He was built. He was rough. Has anyone really been able to take his place?

Blake's career started in the 1980s, first as an exotic dancer and later, after being discovered by gay actor Paul Hanson, as a porn star. His debut film was 'Ebony Knights,' which would lead to appearances in over 100 more videos.

Even after his retirement in 2000, Blake continued to make waves within the gay community. An ordained Christian minister, he argued against gay marriage but in favor of protections for gay civil unions. He has also spoken out against the industry that made him famous, warning guys from getting into the biz; his own work in videos, however, 'was all part of God's plan.'
