More pirates targeted by porn companies

Porn companies take on porn piratesPitbull Productions recently helped initiate a major raid on a New York DVD retailer, resulting in over 10,000 counterfeit videos being confiscated. The U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York sent a team of U.S. Marshals into B&B Bookstore last week to bust the porn pirating ring.

“Pitbull worked tirelessly to obtain sufficient evidence for the Federal Court to approve the raid, including long-term undercover operations which yielded information that many of the major adult gay movie studios had DVDs that were being bootlegged,” said a company spokesman.

A second company, Flava Works, also announced that it is taking a tougher stance on piracy. In February, Flava Works initiated lawsuits against two alleged copyright infringers, DGSource.com (a forum) and IStackPorn.net (a blog), and plans to file a series of lawsuits against other alleged infringers in the future, to put a damper on the rampant theft of its copyrighted material.

“We spend countless hours producing our high quality products. We’re not in the business of having pirates reap the benefits of what we have sown" said Flava Works’ CEO Phillip Bleicher. "We're getting tired of being taken advantage of and this blatant disregard for the law has to stop."

Expect to see more action taken by porn companies as outright theft by pirate websites and rampant file sharing by indifferent consumers takes its toll on the industry.
