Details on Active Duty

Most journalists pride themselves on objectivity. A few prefer to "research" their stories firsthand. One, though, has completely redefined the term "immersion journalism." His name is Mark Simpson, and in the latest issue of Details magazine he goes where no reporter has gone before: both behind the scenes and in front of the camera at Dink Flamingo's controversial ActiveDuty.com.

Active Duty has been all over the news recently thanks to charges filed against seven members of the U.S. military's 82nd Airborne Division who appeared on the website; early this month, in fact, two soldiers were convicted of sodomy and discharged from the military.

Among those following the case closely is Simpson, a British writer who according to Fleshbot observed an Active Duty porn shoot featuring two paratroopers while on assignment several years ago. As any fine journalist would do, Simpson went beyond the call of duty and, in the name of good reporting, joined the shoot!

The result, Fleshbot reports, was "Call of Duty," a description of which appears on the video and reads:

"'Call of Duty' is an interesting video in that it starts out as a video between Kane and his longtime military buddy Jack. During this shoot I allowed a journalist (who must remain anonymous) to sit in on the filming. I'm not sure if it was my sly soothing ways or the pretty ass on Kane and the hot ass on Jack, but eventually our writer gets written into the scene and all hell breaks loose."

According to Simpson's own description of the shoot, excerpted from his Details piece by towleroad, the experience "felt more like horseplay than gay sex." Sure looks like gay sex, though.
