Ricky Martin has the sads.
He said there have been a "disappointing" lack of acting role offers, and he is worried it's because he's gay.
Martin is not just some wannabe. Growing up, he acted on stage and TV in Mexico, and starred in the US TV soap opera General Hospital. More recently, he appeared in American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace; he played Versace's model and fashion designer boyfriend Antonio D'Amico, and was nominated for an Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie at the 2018 Emmys for the role.
The offers, though, are few and far between.
"I love acting," Ricky told People. "I'm waiting for those scripts, for those great scripts. I can play gay, I can play straight, I can play a serial killer. I can play Latin, but I can also play European.
"I am ready. Just give it to me, man. Give it to me."
He admitted he does not know why he's not being approached, hoping his sexuality isn't the reason.
"I don't know if I'm not getting parts because I'm gay. But if that's the case, it's really sad. I'm going to keep working until life is different."
A successful music career. A family. Still sexy. What more does this guy want?
During the same People interview, Martin also opened up about the first time he was confronted about his sexuality in an interview, courtesy of Barbara Walters.
"You could stop these rumors," Walters implored. "You could say, 'Yes I am gay or no I'm not.'" Martin was visibly stunned. He finally retreated, answering with "I just don't feel like it."
He says the moment still haunts him. "When she dropped the question, I felt violated because I was just not ready to come out. I was very afraid." Martin's entire body shifts. He clears his throat and takes a deep breath. "There's a little PTSD with that."
