Joel Kim creating "Pride and Prejudice" inspired gay comedy

Sexy out comic Joel Kim Booster is working on a movie called Trip, which he describes as a gay romantic comedy set on New York’s Fire Island.

Booster explained that the film would be an unapologetic, modern day rom-com loosely inspired by Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. Trip is about two best friends on a legendary week-long summer vacation with the help of cheap rosé and a group of buddies.

“For the last couple of years I’ve been threatening to pitch a gay Pride and Prejudice adaptation that takes place entirely on Fire Island and I finally found a platform foolish enough to do it!," Booster tweeted. "This is my version of [Adam] Sandler telling Netflix he has to film his next movie on the Amalfi Coast or some shit. Only I’m making all my friends wear speedos on Long Island in April!!!"

Jax Media will produce the movie for streaming video start-up Quibi (which will launch in April, 2020).
