Kevin McHale releases "Help Me Now" music video

Kevin McHale gleeKevin McHale is probably best known for his work on the hit series Glee, where he played Artie Abrams.

The show ended four years ago, but McHale has continued to work in the entertainment industry, hosting several seasons of the British TV series Virtually Famous and working on his music. He also had time to come out last April, and is currently dating actor Austin P. McKenzie.

He's getting ready to drop his first album, Boy, at the end of May. His first single has just been released.

The video for "Help Me Now" stars Modern Family's Nolan Gould, who receives a mysterious package with a note that reads, "I'm sorry." Inside the package: a virtual reality headset. Once he puts it on, Gould is transported to McHale’s music video.

“We wanted something that was not taking itself seriously,” McHale told PopSugar. “I’m not supposed to be dancing necessarily that well. It’s more like desperation. We want it to be funny and sort of me just trying a little too hard because that’s what the song’s about and what the lyrics reflect.”

As for the album, McHale explained: “Lyrically [all the songs] are about me growing up in a weird way, like emotionally growing up in a weird way. It was sort of the break between my 20s where nobody really knows what they’re doing. It’s fun to reflect upon that and dive in deeper and dissect those things. The title Boy reflected me feeling like I was a boy then and I’m finally now starting to grow up or be an adult, as much as I hate that.”

Boy may be McHale's first album, but he admitted he had at least three albums worth of material locked away.

“During the Glee days, when I [was] doing music outside of it, I was always putting on a persona, or I felt like I had to,” he shared. “People had me recording early Justin Bieber-sounding stuff, and I was like ‘This doesn’t feel like me at all.’ It’s only now, the first time living as an adult without a crazy 17-hour-per-day work schedule, that I’ve had the time to think about something else, and that’s how this music came about.”
