Back in May,
we told you about David Enrique Meza, a man who was found guilty of murdering his wealthy boyfriend, Clyde Merendino. The murder took place on May 1, 2015, during a trip to Mexico where Merendino had business in Rosarito, in the Mexican state Baja California.
The murder was brutal; Merendino was stabbed over 20 times, his throat was slashed, and his body was dumped in a ravine.
Meza, who worked in gay porn using the names "Francisco" and "
Mario Romo," and his girlfriend Taylor Marie Langston were charged. Langston pleaded guilty. Meza stood trial and was convicted.
Yesterday, the 27-year-old was sentenced to life in prison. He was given an additional sentence of 20 years in prison for a conspiracy to obstruct charge. (And for a healthy young man, that's a whole lot of jail time to look forward to. Hope he likes to read.)
“The Merriam dictionary defines ‘heinous’ as hatefully or shockingly evil, abominable. This murder was shockingly evil — excessively so.
“If we try to visualize what happened, we visualize blow, after blow, after blow, after blow, after slash, after slash, after slash, after blow, and repeat another three times. One can’t even imagine the torture and torment Mr. Merendino experienced.”
Prosecutors felt the sentence was just.
“Nothing can spare the victim or his family the agony of this unspeakable crime,” said U.S. Attorney Adam Braverman, “but today justice was delivered to a murderer who will suffer his own sort of agony -- a lifetime in prison.”
