Some guys just don't know when to shut up.
Derick Dillard is the perfect example. He's a reality TV star who was first introduced to the world as a potential suitor for one of the million kids on the TLC hit show 19 Kids and Counting. The series focused on the Duggars, a religious family raising their constantly increasing brood to be good Christian folk (the kind that have openly spoken out against things like pre-marital sex and homosexualists!).
It was revealed that the eldest son, Josh, had sexually assaulted five girls (including four of his sisters) when he was in his teens. The revelation resulted in the show being canceled in 2015.
The Duggar name lives on, however, in the form of Counting On; it's a spin-off that focuses on two of the sisters, Jill and Jessa, and their lives.
Enter Dillard, who had been dating Jill in the original series. The two are now married and hoping to have a billion kids of their own.
Dillard, however, is unapologetically transphobic and has taken repeated shots at Jazz Jennings, the trans teen star of another TLC hit series, I Am Jazz.
“I pity Jazz, 4 those who take advantage of him in order 2 promote their agenda, including the parents who allow these kinds of decisions 2 be made by a child,” Dillard tweeted last week. “It’s sad that ppl would use a juvenile this way. Again, nothing against him, just unfortunate what’s on TV these days.”
Jennings, of course, identifies as a girl.
Dillard seemed to be following up on a series of anti-Jennings tweets in August, in which he finally concluded that “’Transgender’ is a myth.”
Jennings has chosen to take the high ground, responding on Twitter: “In the face of constant ignorance and hatred I prefer to disregard negative opinions and continue moving forward with love.”
TLC decided Dillard was too much of a dick to stay on the network and released the following statement:
Too bad he didn't take his wife with him.
