Sorry, guys, but Chick-fil-A is still helping to bankroll several anti-LGBT organizations with over $1.4 million in donations.

 

Five years ago, the LGBT community called out the restaurant chain and its CEO Dan Cathy after his constant support -- with cash and with in-kind donations of food -- for anti-gay groups was revealed.

 

He admitted the claims were true saying that he was “guilty as charged” for opposing gay rights and same-sex marriage. He also refused to apologize.

 

During an interview he argued: "I think we are inviting God's judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at Him and say, 'We know better than you as to what constitutes a marriage.' I pray God's mercy on our generation that has such a prideful, arrogant attitude to think that we have the audacity to define what marriage is about."

 

However, as protests mounted, Cathy softened his position and promised his chain and its non-profit foundation would stay out of the debate and focus on chicken. The company released a statement promising to “treat every person with honor, dignity and respect-regardless of their beliefs, race, creed, sexual orientation and gender.” 

 

Half a decade later and the company is still providing support for various groups pushing an anti-gay agenda. Recent tax filings reveal that the Chick-fil-A Foundation donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to anti-gay organizations as recently as 2015. 

 

For example, the Chick-fil-A Foundation gave more than $1 million in 2015 (nearly one-sixth of its total grants) to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, an organization the pushes a Christian message with a strong anti-LGBTQ component. In fact, the Fellowship's staff and volunteers must promise to maintain their sexual purity by avoiding “homosexual acts."

 

“The Bible is clear in teaching on sexual sin including sex outside of marriage and homosexual acts," explained the group. "Neither heterosexual sex outside of marriage nor any homosexual act constitute an alternative lifestyle acceptable to God.”

 

Of course, this shouldn't come as much of a surprise. The Human Rights Campaign recently scored Chick-fil-A a 0 on LGBTQ-inclusive policies (or lack thereof). 

 

Besides, we've eaten at Chick-fil-A and the food there is mediocre at best. Even Trump prefers KFC.
