Heineken tries to bring very different people together

Earlier this month, Pepsi was accused of co-opting the Black Lives Matter movement and anti-Trump marches to sell pop. The tone-deaf ad featured Kendall Jenner leaving a photoshoot, walking through a multi-racial protest group, and confronting a police officer. She hands him a Pepsi, he smiles, and the protesters cheer. See, politics is easy!

Well, the ad fell flat and Pepsi was forced to apologize.

Beer maker Heineken is following with an ad about bringing different people together, but it may have succeeded where Pepsi failed. In the ad, titled “Worlds Apart," three sets of strangers who have conflicting views on feminism, climate change and transgender rights are brought together.

When they meet, their differing points of view are not known to each other. They work together on a task -- making a bar and stools -- and then sit down for a drink and a chat.

Only then do they watch a video that outlines their new friend's opposing opinion on a major issue.

"You may go, or you can stay and discuss your differences over a beer,” a voice over an intercom announces. What happens next?
