For the first time ever, Canada's biggest Pride parade will include a sitting Prime Minister.
Justin Trudeau has been very vocal in his support for LGBT rights and has taken part in Pride festivities in the past, but tweeted he was excited to join Pride again, “this time as PM.”
“[It’s] big news around the world,” Pride Toronto’s executive director Mathieu Chantelois said. “Not only because he is probably the sexiest politician alive but also because there has never been a leader of a country to walk in a parade, at least not that we know of.”
“It’s a nice way to make history,” Chantelois added.
Along with Trudeau, Finance Minister Bill Morneau (the Toronto Centre Member of Parliament), Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne (a lesbian) and Toronto Mayor John Tory are also slated to take part in the festivities.
The Toronto Pride Parade takes place July 3.
