Next Door the latest studio to go bareback

After a year of flirting with the occassional condomless scene, Next Door Studios has joined the growing ranks of bareback studios. Last week, the Montreal-based company launched Next Door Raw, with nine scenes and one weekly update.

When BananaGuide launched, in 2000, the only North American-based companies making bareback porn were Hot Desert Knights and Treasure Island Media, both considered outliers. Other studios agreed that they had a responsibility to their models and their viewers to use condoms in fuck scenes. The reason, of course, was HIV / AIDS.

As preventive measures and treatments for HIV have improved, more and more studios have gone raw. In 2014, Michael Lucas, one of the most outspoken critics of bareback studios, took Lucas Entertainment totally bareback. He believed Truvada was a game changer. In 2015 Randy Blue made the switch. Also last year, Men.com -- which uses condoms on its flagship site --  acquired Sean Cody and relaunched Juicy Boys as Bromo, touting the original bareback content of those sites.

More than anything it is consumer demand that has hastened the shift to condomless fuck scenes. For better or for worse, bareback porn is now mainstream.
