On Tuesday evening, this year's Cybersocket Web Awards were held at the glamorous Penthouse Nightclub in West Hollywood. The awards have been around since 2001 and claim to celebrate the "best" in the online gay adult industry. This year was notable for the insane number of nominees in each category (some had over 30).
Winners are determined by the number of votes gay web surfers cast at CyberSocketWebAwards.com, so the amount of effort a nominated site puts into pushing traffic to the Cybersocket website is closely correlated to the number of votes it gets in its category. So sometimes an award actually goes to one of the best in a category -- and other times it just makes no sense at all. Here are some of this year's winners:
SURFERS' CHOICE AWARDS
Best Hookup Site/Mobile Hookup App: Grindr
Best Niche Site: Str8 To Gay [part of
men.com]
INDUSTRY CHOICE AWARDS
(VOTED ON BY A SECRET PANEL OF INDUSTRY INSIDERS)
Somehow the presenting sponsor of the Cybersocket Awards, Flirt4Free, won both the "Company of the Year" and "Best Affiliate Program" Awards. Go figure.
Businessperson Of The Year: Jake Jaxson (of Cocky Boys)
