James Franco has been teasing the public with the possibility of his gayness for years. And on New Year's Day our favorite metrosexual is set to release a 60 page mini-book, Straight James / Gay James, in which he explores - through prose poetry - his public and private sexual personas.
One section of the booklet is an interview of Gay James by Straight James in which Straight James asks: "Let's get substantial: are you fucking gay or what?"
According to Amazon, the work is "a poetic bildungsroman - raw, candid, and uninhibited. James Franco writes about life as an actor, sexuality, questions of identity, gender, family, Gucci, Lana Del Rey, James Dean, and Hollywood. His poetic style varies from the imagistic to the prosaic."
Will Franco's poesy allow us to label him once and for all? Highly doubtful. His mastery of the gay tease has been so successful that it would be - from a publicity point of view - foolish for him to actually declare himself one way or the other. And the fact that this is not an autobiography or memoir, but a work of literature, makes it even less likely we will get a (pardon the expression) straight answer.
By the way, the digital version of Straight James / Gay James has been available since December 21 and there haven't been any headlines about Franco coming out. But that could be because nobody cares enough to slog through his poems.
