A new group has formed to help protect male escorts from prosecution.
Fort Lauderdale-based 1st Amendment attorney Norm Kent started the organization, and will be joined by mr Pam and law student Stephan Ferris as part of the group's leadership.
"The Department of Homeland Security has initiated a questionable legal action which has terrorized thousands of men who were lawfully trading their time and companionship for legitimate compensation,” Kent said. “There is a need for these men to have a collective voice and open forum to speak out against the raid and for their rights."
The NCORB website will be primarily a resource center, bringing together different groups mandated to help sex workers. Links to online commentary concerning the current struggle to legitimize escorting will also be made available.
There is a membership component to the site, which NCORB says will entitle people to "discounts at various performance related websites, and regular email blasts and news alerts." A database will also be created to help shield an escort's real name, allowing him to conduct business under a pseudonym.
Rent boys are expected to contribute $500, $250, or $100 depending on their level of membership. As well, allies will be asked to cover more of the costs with memberships ranging from $1,000 to $5,000.
It looks like this could be the next big battle for sexual liberty. The question is: can the US shed enough of its prudish ways for this to work out in favor of the sex workers?
