With over 90,000 views already, video of Elliot Darrow's performance for the College Unions Poetry Slam Invitational in April is going viral.
His poem, "What If I Told You God Was Gay," is meant to be a wake-up call to Christians who insist on harboring anti-gay views.
His opening line sets the stage: “What if I told you God is gay? / Do you think belligerent Bible-belters / Would still holler hate speech to the hilltops / In his name?”
Darrow said he grew up Presbyterian but is no longer affiliated with a denomination. "I’ve seen so many people, in my mind, misuse the Bible to preach not necessarily hatred, but just ignorance toward people who are of other preferences," he said. "I want to show that regardless of how someone identifies, God wants to love them, and God does love them."
