Chinese 'porn appraiser' a very popular job

Porn InspectorWhen the Chinese company Safety Alliance advertised for a position of "Chief Pornography Identification Officer," it was obviously hoping for a good response. However, the company did not expect the 5,000 resumes and 300,000 emails it received from interested applicants.

Safety Alliance helps monitor the county's internet, keeping it free of "smut" and other "harmful" content. It advertised the position to help with this work, with a salary of 200,000 yuan ($32,375).

"The position specializing in tackling online pornography is the most popular among applicants," Yang Jilong, the company's human resources chief, revealed. "We need a team leader, which is why we posted the ad."

Part of the job does involve watching several hours of porn in order to determine what is suitable and what is not. You will then have to create training manuals to help others sort through online content.

Other qualifications include being proficient in several languages, having a working knowledge of internet and obscenity laws, and being able to manage personnel. As well, even though China doesn't have an official definition of pornography, the successful job applicant will need to know exactly what citizens aren't allowed to see.

One failed applicant, 23-year-old Cai Yifan, admitted the online test for the position was very difficult.

"The questions covered many fields, such as translation, legal knowledge and psychology," he said. "I'm interested in the job, but my chances of success are very small, as the standards were too high."

He added that taking the test with one hand was a mistake.
