30 Rock actor Tracy Morgan said he was sorry to fans and the LGBT community after reports spread about the comedian's anti-gay rant during last weekend's gig at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium.
“I want to apologize to my fans and the gay and lesbian community for my choice of words at my recent stand-up act in Nashville. I’m not a hateful person and don’t condone any kind of violence against others,” Morgan said in a statement. “While I am an equal opportunity jokester, and my friends know what is in my heart, even in a comedy club this clearly went too far and was not funny in any context.”
Kevin Rogers, who attended the show, was shocked by the lengthy diatribe Morgan made against gays and the possibility of having an 'sissy' for a kid. ”I can take a joke, but I absolutely did not expect a rant like this in the middle of a comedy act,” Rogers said.
He posted details of the incident on Facebook, claiming that Morgan argued “that the gays needed to quit being pussies and not be whining about something as insignificant as bullying” and that “if his son [said that he] was gay he better come home and talk to him like a man…or he would pull out a knife and stab that little [n-----] to death.”
Other gems from the night included: "Gay was something kids learn from the media and programming" and "Barack Obama needed to man up and quit being all down with this just because he has a wife and two daughters."
Maybe someone's just mad his father named him Tracy ...
