Mason Wyler: 'I'm HIV+'

It is certainly one of the most difficult confessions to make at any time, even more so when it is shared with thousands of fans and complete strangers:  Mason Wyler came out this week as HIV positive.

On Wednesday, his former roommate tweeted that Mason had contracted Hepatitis C. Website GayPornGossip added to the story, indicating that Mason had Hep C, but was also HIV positive, compelling Mason to set the record straight.

 "I told someone that I had Hepatitis C because I had to explain why I wasn’t flying out to work (for Next Door Studios) anymore,' Mason told The Sword. "I mean, it sounded better than HIV and I didn't want him to know. But yeah, it’s actually HIV. I have HIV, not Hepatitis C. And as much as I’d like to say that my sex life is active, it’s not. I haven't been sleeping with anyone, and the last person I did sleep with was actually HIV positive, too."

He then went on to his own blog and shared the news: "I have something to say. I spent the last few months waiting for the right time to tell you but it turns out that there is no right time... I wish I could put this off for a little while longer but information like this usually finds a way of coming out sooner than later. In fact, people have already begun to talk so I might as well just tell you now. I tested positive. I have only myself to blame. I have HIV and it kind of sucks."

According to The Sword's Zach Sire, both he and Mark Wilson of GayPornGossip have known about Mason's status for months. Both felt it best to keep this information to themselves as it was ultimately a personal matter. Then Wilson decided it was in the best interest of others to know about Mason's health, arguing that he was cruising on hook-up sites and not being honest about his status.(You can check out the heated debate between Sire and GayPornGossip's Wilson here.)

The news, for Mason, is life altering. And regardless of what you think about him, some compassion is in order.
