Ricky Martin finally comes out

So get this: pop singer Ricky Martin is gay! Who knew?

"I am proud to say that I am a fortunate homosexual man," Martin wrote on his blog. "I am very blessed to be who I am."

He never fully denied his homosexuality, nor would he confirm it. When ABC's Barbara Walters asked Martin to address the gay rumors he avoided answering the question. "I just don't feel like it," Martin explained.

The 39-year-old Puerto Rican native wrote that "these years in silence and reflection made me stronger and reminded me that acceptance has to come from within and that this kind of truth gives me the power to conquer emotions I didn't even know existed."

People warned him that "everything you've built will collapse" if he came out. He said: "Allowing myself to be seduced by fear and insecurity became a self-fulfilling prophecy of sabotage. Today I take full responsibility for my decisions and my actions."

Martin's parenthood and self-reflection as he worked on his memoirs, initiated the new openness. "To keep living as I did up until today would be to indirectly diminish the glow that my kids where born with," he wrote. "Today is my day, this is my time, and this is my moment."
